SPRING CLASSES

Meeting Dates: 1/16, 1/30, 2/6, 2/13, and 2/27 or 2/28 (depends on age); Ages: 10+; Time: 9:00 - 11:00 AM; Tuition- $150/semester; In this class, we will practice the scientific method and prepare for the Regional USM Science Fair (optional). Students will complete their science fair project in class. We will discuss all of the components required in local and regional science fairs as well as practice scientific writing skills. This class includes: Lecture and Lab for 4-2 hour classes @ $10/hr. This is a continuation of the fall class but new students are welcome. Whether you want to improve your writing skills for the future ACT or to prepare yourself for college, this Writing course will help you learn how to synthesize your ideas, create quality content, and share research with the community. This course will include writing in science, fictional writing, persuasive writing, and more! We will watch films as a class and discuss topics such as the following: narration, editing, sound, cinematic techniques, and the film's purpose. Meeting Dates: 1/17, 1/31, 2/7, 2/14, 2/21, 3/7, 3/21, 3/28, 4/4, 4/11, 4/18, *5/2, 5/9, 5/16; Ages: 10+; Time: 9:00-11:00am; Tuition: $370 ($10/hour); In this class, we will follow the Mississippi College and Career Readiness Standards for Marine Biology I. We will cover topics such as the importance of species diversity to the biological resources needed by human populations, the effects of natural phenomena, dichotomous classification keys, and more! We will also dissect marine species and incorporate STEAM activities throughout the course. This Class Includes: Lecture and lab for 13- 2-hour classes @ $10/hr; Shark Dissection - kit included in overall course price. ($25.00); - *USM Marine Education Center field trip included in the overall course price. ($65) Date: Friday, May 2, 2025. This Coastal Science Day will be an all-day trip to their facility in Ocean Springs, MS. In this class, we will practice photography techniques, learn how to edit photos, design page layouts, and create a stand - out yearbook. In this class, we will discuss popular trends, play games, make delicious era-specific foods, listen to well-known tunes, read interesting trivia and historical facts, and so much more!
