Want to learn about sales goals and managing deadlines? Enjoy working as a team to create something that will stand the test of time? Join Yearbook Staff and Graphic Design to help create The Country Schoolhouse's yearbook for the 2023 - 2024 school year. In this class, we will practice photography techniques, learn how to edit photos, design page layouts, and create a stand - out yearbook. Join this class, and let's continue the tradition of memorable yearbooks with The Country Schoolhouse. **This class is a continuation of the Graphic Design class that was offered in the fall, but the fall class is not a prerequisite. We are welcoming new students in the spring semester. ***Notice the time change, this class has been extended thirty minutes extra. Meeting Dates: 8/16, 8/23, 8/30, 9/6, 9/13, 9/20, 9/27, 10/4, 10/11, 10/18, 10/25, 11/1, 11/8, 11/15, 11/22, 12/6, 12/13, 12/20; Ages: 10+; Time: 9:00-11:00am; Tuition: $398.45 ($10/hour); In this class, we will follow the Mississippi College and Career Readiness Standards for Marine Biology I. We will cover topics such as the unique physical and chemical properties of water, the principles of plate tectonics, specific aquatic ecosystems, and the effects of human and natural phenomena on those ecosystems. We will also dissect marine species and incorporate STEAM activities throughout the course. This Class Includes: Lecture and lab for 18- 2-hour classes @ $10/hr; Clam Dissection - kit included in overall course price. ($8.95); Dauphin Island Field Trip to the Aquarium with STEM activity at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab Discovery Hall - field trip included in the overall course price. ($29.50) Date: Friday, October 4, 2024. This will be an all-day trip to Dauphin Island Sea Lab where we will tour the aquarium facility and participate in an activity titled, "ROVing the Gulf". Description: Students design, build and fly their own unique remotely operated vehicle (ROV). As they do, they explore buoyancy, hydrodynamics and apply the engineering design process. Students learn to work in teams and rise to challenges as their ROVs carry out missions. The educator shares local and global examples of ROV use in underwater research, exploration, and industry. Meeting Dates: 8/15, 8/29, 9/12, 9/26, 10/3, 10/10, 11/7, 11/21, 12/5, 12/19, One Astronomy Star Gazing Party (11/16/24); Ages: 10+; Time: 3:30 - 4:30PM; Tuition: $115/Semester; This class follows the Mississippi College and Career Readiness Standards for Earth and Space Science. We will discuss topics such as the development, size, and composition of the universe, the laws that predict the motion of celestial bodies, the structure and composition of Earth, Earth's resources, constellations, and more! Meeting Dates: 8/15, 8/29, 9/12, 9/26, 10/3, 10/10, 11/7, 11/21, 12/5, 12/19 Time: 1:00 - 3:00 PM Tuition- $150/Semester ($7.50/hr) In this class, students will participate in film analyses using ELA standards from the Mississippi College and Career Readiness Standards. We will watch films as a class and discuss topics such as the following: narration, editing, sound, cinematic techniques, and the film's purpose. Whether you want to improve your writing skills for the future ACT or to prepare yourself for college, this Writing course will help you learn how to synthesize your ideas, create quality content, and share research with the community. This course will include writing in science, fictional writing, persuasive writing, and more! Meeting Dates: 8/15, 8/29, 9/12, 9/26, 10/3, 10/10, 11/7, 11/21, 12/5, 12/19; Ages: 10+; Time: 9:00 - 11:00 AM; Tuition- $250/semester; In this class, we will practice the scientific method and prepare for The Country Schoolhouse Science Fair (Thursday, December 19, 2024) and later for the Regional USM Science Fair (Spring 2025). Students will create their science fair project in class. We will discuss all of the components required in local and regional science fairs as well as practice scientific writing skills. This class includes: Lecture and Lab for 10-2 hour classes @ $10/hr (included in overall course price); Science Fair board and other materials (included in overall course price): $45.00; Because all of the teachers at The Country Schoolhouse are individual contractors, we all handle our registration process a little differently.
